About Tara's Thistle

In 2005 Tara's Thistle was voted into the CONNTours Directory of Performing Artists, funded by the State of Connecticut's Commission on Culture and Tourism. Click here to link to their CCT listing. Since 1995 Bruce and Sandy Hedman have been performing as the Celtic folk duo Tara's Thistle. They sing traditional Irish, Scottish, and Maritime folksongs in close, two-part harmony with guitar, harmonica, and drum accompaniment. They also include toe-tapping Celtic jigs, reels, and hornpipes played on the Scottish bagpipes, and Irish flute and bodhran. They weave into their programs stories and bits of the history behind the folksongs they sing, as well as humorous anecdotes from the six-months they lived in Ireland and Scotland. They are much in demand by libraries and historical societies in Connecticut, Massachusetts, and Rhode Island. To coffeehouses and art centers they offer a program of contemporary Celtic music.

"The Sound of Singing," by Eric Bogle

If you remain on this page for a couple minutes, you will hear Tara's Thistle sing a couple choruses of Eric Bogle's great opener "The Sound of Singing." Eric said that he would have called it "The Sound of Music," but "a wee Austrian nun beat me to it." It is being downloaded as background sound from a .wav file, and will take a couple minutes.

To quote from their website:

"Arts Presentation grants offer funding to support Connecticut nonprofit organizations, schools, and units of state or local government which present events featuring members of the CONNTours Directory of Performing and Teaching Artists. Arts Presentation Grants are designed to bring the best of Connecticut's performing artists to a wide in-state audience."
