
This photo is of "Scott's View," the place Sir Walter Scott said was the finest vantage point in all of Scotland. Here the River Tweed comes together with the Yarrow and Ettrick. In the background you can see Trimontium, where the Romans built their encampment. Everytime Scott rode between Abbotsford and Melrose he stopped his horses here to enjoy the view. It is said that during Scott's funeral cortege from Abbotsford to Melrose Abbey, his horses out of habit pulled off the road here.
